Ebook About A fallen prince and his former enemyDavid Thomen is Earth’s premier scientist, and he wants to be alone with his inventions, his money, and his own company. Instead, a mute, starving, alien is dropped in his lap. Not just any alien - a former prince and the leader of Earth’s first alien invasion, defeated by David's technology.Vell was royalty, a conqueror, a warrior-mage. Now, he is bound by a magical collar, unable to speak or eat without earning it. On Earth, he finally finds someone who can see the torment behind his submission. Someone who may be willing to give him his freedom, his dignity, or even just a hot meal.Unwilling to let Vell die, David begins a journey that will compromise his morals, challenge his scientific beliefs, and teach him about loyalty, brotherhood, passion, and love.Book Prince for Sale (Thrall Prince Romance Book 1) Review :
... it's kinda like a Hollywood B-movie. Large plot holes, cliches you find familiar and it's obviously set up to have a sequel. It's getting three stars because it really is poorly written but I did reread it.I'm going to spoiler a lot, so if that bothers you, read no more. Just take away the knowledge this is not a well written book and that you can easily imagine Avengers characters into major roles. Repeat, poorly written. See also: one-point reviews.First off, cover. I like book covers to give me an idea of the book and main characters. This one is way off. The front guy is supposed to be Vell - a slender guy, possibly still showing signs of past abuse, definitely not sporting muscles. The collar he wears should be golden, with crystals, not the kind of e-shock collar used for dogs. Why David in the background wears that gadget in his ear is anyone's guess.Second, the title. I know editors and marketing make those kinds of decisions for the author, but still. The prince in question is controlled by a magical collar that forces him to be a (sex) slave to a master (hence the thrall part). A relative of his previous owner would like him back for further (ab)use and forces them into sale negotiations though it's clear there is no intention of actually selling him. So, no, no prince is bought in this book. The Samningur does take up a lot of the book, but that's it.Thirdly and overall, the book is poorly written. You'd think the good guy would treat all those wounds and signs of abuse Vell had when he was given into his care? You'd think David or his supersmart AI would notice Vell had not eaten for days? You'd think someone who sets up having a sex slave would have him present himself for sex in less than his underwear? (Really, prissy authors should not touch topics they feel squeamish about.) You'd think, in a book about a forced sex slave we'd get better bedroom scenes as things get consensual? "The rest of the night was a blur" for a passage. The lapses in logic and storytelling are so Hollywood-level that at one point my mind just gave up - like a B-movie you know is bad and still watch for the nice lead actor and scenery and special effects. But, please, do not talk about plot holes or logic in actions. It took me a while to figure out what the author wanted to do with the book. The key is that the collar can be removed when the master no longer has want or need of the thrall, but nobody knows that until the end of the book. The thrall collar encourages the thrall to seek to please his master so ostensibly Vell would have been trying to be pleasing for David from the very start (sorry, don't really see that in the book). David falls for that, becomes attracted to Vell, not just physically but also for companionship (sorry, also don't really understand why as I read the book, pretty much instalust). All this culminates then they work on the text explaining how the collar works and Vell is confronted with the fact that by having made David want him he has made it impossible to become free of the collar. This is the idea the book should be centered around - being trapped by doing what the collar forced him to do, by trying to make things easier for himself. And David is confronted with the understanding that Vell is trapped, because he indeed does want him. There should be a build-up to this point and it should be a grand moment. Well, yeah, not so climatic in actual writing, though a nice idea for a story. Of course, they do get the collar off and that is not even the last chapter. Why is there going to be a sequel? Because Kindle helpfully shows how many people have underlined the places where Vell does not talk about the regicide he was punished for. Also, the book has a series title in brackets. Content-wise, the book ends with a nice HFN ending. This was certainly different from other books about interaction between other planets and earth, but the characters grew on me once I could separate the alien realities of magic, portals, and sadistic, evil and depraved individuals who get off on another suffering at their hands.Vell and David were quite the interesting characters, and adding Lonn, Vell's brother into the equation simply made for quite a story. Once David got past his distaste of treating Vell as his sex slave to relieve Vell's suffering, their story took off. Falling for the pretty Prince was inevitable since there were so many clues given that David was very attracted to Vell. Their problem was that David did not trust Vell's feelings and responses to him because of the thrall collar - he couldn't know whether he did so because he wanted and desired David, or if he was avoiding punishment and resorting to learned behavior instead. I found this well done, despite some blatant typos.
